She lights up a room,
yet never her own..
and rises up each morn
to face all the gloom
She paints on a face
and smiles all around
but she fails to find
any hope for a crown
She runs to the ball
prince charming to gain
yet her spirit is buried
in depths of her pain
He shows himself strong
this man seems secure,
a confident stance
with such a demure,
He’s solidly certain
and hides all his doubt,
for his value is found
in his image so proud
He reveals no pain
for the fear to expose
all the festering wounds
this life has bestowed
The masks that they wear
may seem attractive to see,
until the end of the ball
when all that’s left is debris,
as the chandelier shatters
shards fall to the ground
the illusion is broken
no light can be found
In darkness they seek
to find a new hope,
just a spark or a flame
to help the heart cope
Where could they find
a light that would last,
and courage to remove
this image and mask?
