Face of a child

It’s not the words of a child
but the face of a child
which tells the whole truth...

Behind the face of a child
a story's yearned to be told,
yet most are conditioned
to fit a 'clear' mold

The hope of life shined
in these innocent eyes,
until truth became crushed
blindsided by lies

Budding visions were broken
and expectations formed,
for the child to now fit
society’s norm

The face learned to lie
to be accepted by peers,
the mask quickly grew
hiding deepest of fears

The perfect disguise
a face knows to perform,
an act with all scenes
the story transforms

True identity's lost
it takes the mask's form,
distorting the face
of a child that was born

Serving this mask
has imprisoned the child,
in the dungeon of an adult
where a true face is reviled

What’s become of the child
who once was so free,
now enslaved to the lie
formed for you and for me

Yet the child inside
still yearns to be known,
but fear holds the mask
till it’s cover is blown

True love can see through
the masks that they wear,
while it may fool others
some really don’t care

Then who can accept
a child with their scars,
and uncover the mask
to see who they are

The mask is transparent
to The Creator above,
who longs to restore
this child with kindness
and love
