The Sea

We wrestled with the sea today...
The sea did not give up it's fight,
neither did we...

On a well seasoned ship
with billowing sails,
we set on a course
the wind on our tail

The sea came to show
our weakness, it's strength,
as it's waves beat upon us
from bow to full length

A tempest was rising,
this wind and the sea
could have easily taken
the old schooner and me

Sails forced by this gale
the deck lists to a slope,
above a swallowing sea
our lives hung by a rope

'Bring down the sails!'
was an urgent command,
so we wrestled to do
what our ship would demand

Sails down, our souls weary
yet with harbor in sight,
we could never give up
without a good fight

Our ship creaked and it groaned
storm beaten and tired,
taking water on fast
for it's pump had retired

Then with buckets in hand
on deck and below,
we worked as a team
'twas no time to be slow

As our harbor approached
in relief we all sighed,
giving thanks to The One
who such grace did provide
