Winter Solstice

The darkest day is over
the longest night has passed,
leaves have all been scattered
over lands so wide and vast

Frost has stolen warmth
from the veins of every plant,
soft soil now has hardened
as a heart in deep lament

Frozen in the tundra
where wicked winds do blow,
the only hope for cover
is a blanket of white snow

Though nature has succumb
within the grasp of death,
deep darkness will try still
to draw life’s final breath

As now each day draws longer
this darkness soon shall pass,
the sun taps on our shoulder
to remind us life will last
